Commissions
Over the last twenty or so years, I have taken hundreds of commissions for loved ones, both human and animal. Portraits in pencil and pastels are most popular, closely followed by drawings of loved ones as fairies or other fantasy beings, including people as their zodiac signs. I have also been commissioned for tattoo designs and improvement to tattoo designs.
Commissions begin at £60 for a pastel or pencil sketch. Sketches are less detailed and capture the subject with gentle strokes of media on pastel or water colour paper. This sweet picture to the right is an example of a basic sketch commission for £60, it was drawn on honey coloured pastel paper using pastels and water colour pencils. I concentrate detail on the face, particularly the eyes, and reduce detail around the hair, clothes etc.
A medium level of detail can be achieved with graphite on water colour paper or bristol board. This takes about 10 to 20 hours of work and prices begin at £70, depending on size of the required picture. The gentleman's portrait below is an example of a basic £70 commission, with the drawing of the dog, (taking more hours to draw than the first portrait) a good example of a £150 medium detail commission.
More detailed commissions are drawn in graphite on bristol board to achieve finer and more meticulous pencil lines, and smoother skin tones. The grand old, elegant lady below is an example of the more detailed and realistic artwork that I am better known for, and involves something like 30 to 50 hours hours of meticulous work. This level of commission can be arranged from around £300, again depending on the size of the required picture.
Finally, to commission a special piece, to depict a person as a fantasy or mythical being, there are many more extra hours of consultation, preliminary sketches, research and then detailed work to achieve the desired finished artwork. This type of commission very much depends on the request and hours involved, but begin at around £300.
