Hazel Colton is a fantastical reality artist based in the UK, working predominantly in the media of pencil. She can’t remember a time when she hasn’t been drawing, even as a child of 5 she was experimenting with smudging and distorting pencil to get different effects and shading. After studying art at school and continuing to ‘A’ level at college, she went on to a different career path, but never stopped drawing, doing art commissions and selling her art.
Now yielding to repeated requests to put her art into print and working under her own ‘Twisted Hazel’ brand, she is developing a number of collections for print and sale. Much of Hazel's work focuses on the fantasy world, bringing myths and legends alive with her photographic style of pencil art. Her collection also includes some powerful animal imagery, including tigers, horses and wolves.
"Much of the inspiration for my art comes from the world of fantasy, myth and legend; I feel a real fascination with the unseen worlds and fantasy... faerie folk, mer people, satyrs and other mythical beings. I study and draw nature, animals and people to help to portray the imagery as accurately as possible, making the fantastical a reality.” (Hazel Colton)
